Last week, I met an incredible Guinness World Record Holder.....my first one too!
Now at 68, British man Alan Holman who in 1982 at the age of 38, is the first and only man on record that has ever kayaked the entire length of the 4,000 mile long Amazon River, you know what he said to me...
'Young lady, nothing ...is 100% impossible, but
nothing is 100% sure'
awww.
I was lucky enough to be present at a unique presentation on his savvy knowledge of the geographical in and outs of the Amazon Basin and a fascinating in-depth account of his adventures down the second longest River in the world (after the Nile) for 116 days in his 13ft 6 inch modified canoe - trading fishing line with local villagers for bananas and watermelons, how he avoided flesh eating piranhas and experimenting with numerous unsuccessful methods of keeping those pesky blood sucking mosquitoes at bay....whilst trying to sleep wedged in a one man canoe.
Even snatched a signature from The Amazon Man himself
Check out his book written in 1985 'White River, Brown Water: A Record-Making Kayak Journey down the Amazon' about his bold and record breaking challenge as himself quoted was
1. Kayak the entire length of the Amazon River
2. Stay Alive
Both fortunately were accomplished!
Read my own Audio Travel Adventure Story 'Letters From The Amazon' when I visited the Amazon myself
